First-Time Homebuyers' Class 2023 (IN PERSON)

This is an 8 hour HUD-certified course that is recommended for all clients interested in becoming homeowners. At the completion of the class, participants receive a Certificate of Completion valid for 12 months. Down payment assistance programs and certain mortgage lenders require this Certificate of Completion.

Clients that attend will learn about the following home buying topics:

• Are you ready to buy a house?
• Managing Your Money
• Understanding Credit
• Obtaining a Mortgage Loan
• Shopping for a Home
• Protecting Your Investment
• Downpayment Assistance Programs

The class instructor will help the clients navigate the technical aspects of the homebuying process, such as, preparing to qualify for a mortgage loan, finding the financing that best meets their needs, putting together their home buying team, reviewing important closing documents, and applying (if applicable) for down payment assistance programs.

Included in the cost of the class, is the opportunity for clients to receive an individual homebuyer counseling appointment. The 1.5 hour counseling sessions are privately held with a HUD certified Housing Counselor that can assist the clients in their personal journey towards homeownership. Appointments available Mondays through Fridays via phone, Zoom, or in-person.

The cost for the class is $50 for an individual or couple, who will purchase a property together. During registration, make sure to include both names of the attendees.

Clients must attend the entire class day from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm . A 45 minute lunch break will be given at 12 pm. Clients are required to participate in class activities throughout the day to be counted as present to receive the Certificate of Completion.

Clients will receive their certificate the following Monday upon completing the Homebuyers' Education Class. If you are registered for a Wednesday class, you will receive your certificate on Thursday.

What is the refund policy? 

Class fees are non-refundable; however, you can reschedule for any future Avenue Zoom Class. Let us know as soon as possible if you want to reschedule to change your class date. NO REFUNDS

Can I swap my virtual class for the eHome America online class?

Yes, you are able to swap classes. The eHome America online class has a fee of $100 per person or couple. To swap the classes you must pay the additional $50 fee. Keep in mind that the virtual class is taught by Avenue staff, and the online class with eHome America is a self paced course that you learn on your own. Is your staff bilingual?

Yes, all Homeownership Center staff are bilingual in English and in Spanish.
