This beginner-friendly session will help you understand how to develop your idea, get a feel for who your customers might be, and cover the basics of legal and financial stuff without all the jargon. By the end, you’ll walk away with a clear plan to move your business forward—no confusion, just practical steps.

This workshop is delivered by Kerry Stevens , the Founding Director of Beanstalk Business Centre CIC, located in Preston. Focused on business services, employment, and skills, the centre supports entrepreneurs, start-ups, not-for-profits, SMEs, and people looking for employment. Kerry’s mission is to positively impact communities by creating sustainable employment opportunities and increasing individual employability.
Kerry is highly regarded for her work as a business adviser, where she provides start-up guidance to aspiring entrepreneurs. Her specialist areas include business management, people management, and community/social enterprise development. Kerry is also adept at helping new business owners overcome imposter syndrome, build confidence, and improve their communication and networking skills.
Before founding Beanstalk Business Centre CIC, Kerry spent 13 years managing a group of four businesses with her partner. She was responsible for overseeing business processes, finances, and people management for 200 staff and subcontractors nationwide.
In 2013, Kerry pivoted to focus on the community and social enterprise sector. She joined the Myerscough College projects team to gain in-depth knowledge of grants and funding processes, followed by a role in a charity to understand the operational aspects of running a social enterprise. This experience paved the way for the launch of Beanstalk Business Centre CIC three years ago, fulfilling her vision of supporting community businesses.
She has successfully project-managed various initiatives, including those funded by ESF, UKSPF, the Department of Education, and Innovate UK. Additionally, Kerry has supported numerous organisations in establishing Community Interest Companies (CICs).
