Founded in 1994, First Night State College has become a beloved community tradition, drawing 10,000–15,000 people each year to downtown State College for a joyful, family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration. Known for its spectacular carved ice displays, live ice-carving artists-in-action, and a full lineup of musical and theatrical performances in theaters, places of worship, and public spaces, the event offers something for everyone.Signature elements include the 5K Resolution Run, hands-on art, craft, and performance workshops, a lively Grand Procession with life-size puppets, live reindeer, and both indoor and outdoor resolution sculptures and activities. Guests of all ages delight in these traditions as they welcome the new year together.
