Panel Discussion - Crosscurrents Book Launch
Join us for the launch of Crosscurrents, a major collaborative project that explores South Australia’s coastal and marine environments through art, research, and storytelling. Presented as part of Nature Festival’s 2025 theme of FLOW, this panel discussion brings together artists and curators to reflect on the processes behind the works featured in the exhibition and the newly released publication. From reimagined cultural practices and encounters with marine ecologies to the everyday rituals of walking, swimming, and observing the shifting edges of land and sea, Crosscurrents charts the many layers of life along South Australia’s coast. The panel will share insights into how these works were created, the research and fieldwork that informed them, and how the book contextualises them within wider ecological and cultural narratives. Hear from artists Chris De Rosa, Honor Freeman, Michael Kutschbach, Mary-Jean Richardson, and curator-author Belinda Howden in the Radford Auditorium, and experience a conversation that brings the tidal complexity of our coastal worlds into focus.
6pm
Workshop - Inked Currents: Flow, Water and Mark-Making with Datsun Tran
Join us for a hands-on workshop exploring the elemental relationship between ink, water, and flow. Using traditional pine ash ink, participants will experiment with techniques that echo the movements of rivers and estuaries. As participants make marks on paper, reflect on the rhythms of local waterways and the role of art in connecting us to natural systems. No experience necessary.

Performance - Alain Valodze & Zhao Liang
Having explored and performed an eclectic variety of styles and genres, Alain is a guitarist drawing influences from Flamenco, Brazilian, Classical, Jazz, Rock, Indian and Latin styles, creating a hauntingly beautiful New Age and contemporary sound; whilst Zhao is a contemporary guzheng player who has sought to experiment in different works each time she collaborates with different artists - often playing with punctuation, textures, accents, tension, emotions and silence.
Celebrating the theme of 'Flow' - the duo will be crossing their cultural backgrounds and speak with a new language through their music - in resonance with the works of flowing water around them.
