First Fridays at the View is where grown folks come to listen to live jazz, dance and have a good time. Our featured artist for February is "Ponpon Chen's Quintet". Ponpon Chen, the 22-year-old jazz sensation from Taipei, Taiwan, is a talented guitarist whose music bridges cultures and captivates hearts. Ponpon’s unique fusion of jazz guitar, scat singing, and storytelling creates a fresh, soulful sound that honors her inspirations—George Benson and Chet Baker—while infusing her rich cultural heritage.
A rising star from Taipei, she’s been competing and performing since age 12. Inspired by jazz greats, she embraced jazz guitar during the pandemic, leading her to study at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. Her music seamlessly blends jazz traditions with her own cultural identity, offering a truly original perspective on the genre.
DJ Sidney Thompson will spin the dance music.
