Friday marks our first foray into jazz as we welcome the Sahara Quartet to Lockhart! Born out of a monthly improvised jam session at Austin’s legendary Sahara Lounge, the band rides the line between “free” jazz and post bop, exploring composition and improvisation as defined by players like Ornette Coleman, Pharaoh Sanders, Steve Lacy, Dewey Redman, or Sonny Sharrock. The Quartet plays tunes written by members Jesse Ebaugh and Damien Valenzuela, defining a space that is musically modern primitive, at times outsider, with a toast to the traditional. Their debut album was recorded here in Caldwell County to boot.Music at 6
