October First Friday | Searching for the Nature of Dark MatterFriday, October 4, 2024 | 6 p.m.
Longway Planetarium | 1310 E. Kearsley St.
Dark matter accounts for about 23% of the energy budget of the universe. However, its nature still remains a mystery. Special guest presenter Dr. Ilias Cholis, Asst. Professor at Oakland University Dept. of Physics will discuss how we use high-energy astrophysical observations to probe the nature of dark matter focusing on observations of gamma rays and cosmic rays. Dr. Cholis's work is concentrated on theoretical high-energy astrophysics and on astroparticle physics with a significant focus on indirect dark matter searches. Many questions in these fields are at the intersection of astrophysics, cosmology and particle physics. He has mainly focused on galactic and extragalactic astrophysics, cosmic rays, gamma rays, neutrinos and gravitational waves.
Live lectures start promptly at 6 p.m., there will be no late seating. Please arrive early for best seating.
Once a live presentation has started, there will be no late seating.
