This group exhibition proposes a future in which we have collectively realized our position in the web of reciprocity. Curator Bella Thomas-Wilson has brought together artists whose works offer important insight on intercommunal exchange, reciprocity and abundance, and sustainable world making. These 12 artists from Brooklyn and Queens, NY, Washington, DC, Berkeley, CA, Cherokee, NC, and Knoxville, TN inspire innovative conversation about our intertwinement through their displayed work.
Our dependence on one another is what makes our human experience so special, however it must be fostered with care. Drawing from Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer’s The Serviceberry and Dr. Elizabeth Freeman’s Queer Belongings, this exhibition asserts a unifying truth: at the core, we are innately intertwined beings who yearn for belonging. If we were open to the possibilities that the world is abundant and our lives are deeply interconnected, might that transform our sense of hope? Can we change our relationship to one another and to the world?
