Artist Statement:
Painting has been an integral part of my life since childhood, when I first learned to paint alongside my Grandma Mary in Southern California. She taught me how to build a color story and play with shadows and light. My work lends abstract and floral forms with a moody, whimsical energy, inspired by the likes of Monet, Van Gogh, Klimt, and O’Keeffe, as well as music, travel, and the natural world.
Before I start a new piece, I take a moment to tune in to what I am feeling and what I want to express. The colors, brushes, and canvas I choose all come from that place. After that, every brushstroke just flows naturally, each one reflecting a part of what I am feeling - things that are hard to say out loud but come through in the painting.
One of the things that I enjoy most about being an artist is seeing how people connect with my work. When someone relates to the emotions or mood I try to capture, it feels like we’re sharing a moment through the art. Their reactions and perspectives often bring new meaning to what I create, reminding me that art is just as much about connection as it is about expression.
