Kick off the year with a first day hike at Eugene T. Mahoney State Park on New Year’s Day!Meet at the James Family Conservatory & Nature Center. Walk through the conservatory and explore the nature center where you’ll find an art activity and more! The hike will start at 2 p.m. along the park’s paved path, which is wheelchair and stroller friendly. We’ll have a warm campfire for roasting marshmallows, while supplies last.
In 2026, Nebraska Game and Parks will join the nation in celebrating 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This milestone is a unique opportunity to connect Nebraskans with the state’s rich natural, cultural, and outdoor heritage. To commemorate the occasion, park staff will be handing out free 250th Anniversary First Day Hike stickers, while supplies last!
Participants should dress for the weather and remember to bring snacks and water, and binoculars, if desired. Friendly pets are allowed on a six-foot leash. A valid 2026 Nebraska state park vehicle permit is required for entry and can be purchased at the park.
