About this Event
Welcome to the First Annual Pintwood Derby! Join us at New Realm Brewing Company Virginia Beach for a day of fun, competition, and craft beer. Bring your creativity and build your own pintwood car to race against others. We will have four different divisions
- Outlaw Division (see below for rules)
- Brewery Division - Bring out your favorite brewery team to compete
- Adult Division (see below for rules)
- Kid Division

June 23rd come out and see what Pinewood Derby is all about, Outlaw Pinewood Derby will have their track set up, cars available to race and car kits for purchase.
July 7th, Outlaw Pinewood Derby will be at New Realm to assist you with your Pinewood car builds.
July 21st, it's off to the races for our first annual Pintwood Derby!!
Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-timer, this event is open to all. Don't miss out on the chance to win fantastic prizes and bragging rights. See you at the starting line!
The race divisions include
Outlaw Division
Height: 3" inches Maximum
Length: 7" inches Maximum
Width: 3"1/2 inches Maximum
Weight: shall not exceed 7 ounces.
Wheels/Car must clear the following Dimensions:
Track center rail height: 1/4" inch (7mm)
Track center rail width: 1 5/8" inches (4.2cm)
Car must be powered by gravity.
No part of the car can extend past the starting gate.
Brewery Division
Adult Division
Kid Division
Car Specifications:
Wheel Base: Any
Height: 3" inches Maximum
Length: 7" inches Maximum
Width: 3"1/2 inches Maximum
Weight: shall not exceed 5 ounces.
4 Axles & Wheels must be installed on the sides of the car body directly across from one another.
Wheels may not be reversed.
Additional materials maybe added, as long as they meet the rules.
The main body of the car must be made of wood.
Washers/slide guide and or aeroshields (clear only) are allowed.
Wheels/Car must clear the following dimensions:
Track center rail height: 1/4" inch (7mm)
Track center rail width: 1 5/8" inches (4.2cm)
Wheels
Type: BSA new style (post 2009), Revell and MaxV
May be CnCed, lathed, polished, and/or sanded to true tread surface.
The tread surface must remain flat, and parallel to the bore
Minimum Thread Width 7.5mm
Lettering must remain on the inside and outside of the wheels
Decorative edge may be removed
Step Removal and Hub coning is allowed
No bushings, sleeves, bearings, or material to be used/added in the wheel bore
Reasons for Disqualification
Magnets, starting or finish line devices, electronic or lighting, glass, fragile parts, wet paint, sticky material or substances, sharp objects, sandpaper, parts beyond the starting peg, propellants, wheels and axles attached to mechanical rotating devices.
