Audubon’s Christmas Bird Count (CBC) is one of the longest-running wildlife surveys in the world. Each individual count takes place over the course of 24 hours, in a 15-mile-wide circle, and is led by a compiler responsible for organizing volunteers and submitting observations directly to the Audubon database. Our local count, in the Firelands circle includes many local birding spots, and this year will be conducted on Saturday December 14th.Within each circle, participants tally all birds seen or heard that day—both the species count and the total numbers of each, to provide a clear idea of the health of that population.
We welcome people to monitor bird feeders that are located within the circle. Once it gets too dark to bird on the day of the count, we will meet at the Roger Johnson Nature Center to compile the results and enjoy food and fellowship. The count will take place, regardless of weather.
If you are able to help on count day or see a unique bird during count week within the circle please contact Morgan at [email protected]
