We’re firing up the grills in the Bay of Islands this March!We’re not talking a sausage sizzle and some beersies. FIRED UP BARBECUE FESTIVAL celebrates everything we love about flame-grilled, low and slow, earth oven, charcoaled, smoked and wood-fired. Located UP north in the beautiful Bay of Islands, where we are lucky to have a BBQ season that lasts a lot longer.
The event combines forces with Tai Tokerau Low & Slow Barbecue Competition, hosted by local pitmaster, Ken Van Mackelbergh (Barbecue BOI), which is part of the NZ Barbecue Alliance roster of official competition events. Check out the Competition Zone for some top tips from the best.
FIRED UP BARBECUE FESTIVAL runs alongside the competition with great music, an EXPO Zone for all your BBQ needs, demonstrations, workshops, backyard games on steroids and of course, great BBQ food that can be enjoyed by all attendees! We even have a heat of the NZ Chilli Eating Champs.
