Fire making Workshop series for Women
Come and learn the fundamentals of making fire, tending fire, bow drill, wood chopping, knife handling.
In this workshop series Marie and Claudelle will mentor women to hone in their fire skills and share how to bring fire tending into their own lives and community.
Creating fire with our own hands is deeply connective. Practicing the skill of friction fire and fire building brings us closer to ourselves, to nature, to our ancestors and community. It is in our bones, all of us have relatives who were making fire and using friction methods.
What you will walk out with:
-Feeling empowered with your fire skills: from wood chopping to building and tending the fire.
-Your own carved bow drill kit and mentorship on lighting a fire of your own.
-Built trust in lighting a fire with wet materials from the land
- Tools to relate to yourself, community and nature (through some 8 Petals/Shields core routines)
- Inspired by story and myth connecting woman and fire
- Humility: Fire will be your teacher
- Deepened relationship with a circle of fire woman

Who:
For Women ages 17 plus.
Where: Lake Cowichan, Skutz Falls.
How to come prepared:
Must come with a fixed blade knife (mora knives are easy to find and affordable), water, a packed lunch and warm layers
Your Mentors:
We are Marie Whimsy and Claudelle Charette. Women born crawling close to earth like you. Marie was born and raised in the far West of British Columbia, breathing in the salty salish seas. Claudelle in the East under the canopy of sugar maples and Birch forests in Quebec. Forever changed by initiations given by the speaking land and the mentorship of incredible people. They are driven by the expansive opportunity we all have to connect closely with our animal and plant kin and started FIRE WOMAN to open others to their own connection to naturalist practices.
Claudelle Charette and Marie Whimsy share years of experience in nature-based schooling and wilderness settings. Both educated in the 8-shields lineage, their vision is to inspire people of all ages into the wonderful world of wind, animal, fire, water, bone, flesh, fir and forest.
Claudelle and Marie are graduates of Wisdom of the Earth school 1st year immersion and 2nd year apprenticeship and share years of ‘dirt time’. Before diving into nature based mentoring both came from an arts background.
Marie is studied in expressive arts, Pochinko style clowning and Claudelle in fine arts.
Our mentors include Jean-Claude, Ingrid Bauer, Arnaud Gagné, Matthew McKinney, Alaina Hallett and Mother Nature. Presently we are both outdoor educators at Thriving Root Wilderness School and privately in the Cowichan Valley.
