About this Event
Step back in time and experience the magic of Christmas in 18th and 19th century Edinburgh!
Due to phenomenal demand we have added a second date to our Christmas event ! ?
The house is typically closed to visitors in the winter, making this a rare chance to see it adorned for Christmas and illuminated by candlelight, just as its original 18th-century residents would have experienced.
In Edinburgh’s New Town, Christmas, or "Yule," was a month-long celebration bursting with lively parties, grand balls, and heartwarming family gatherings. Discover the rich blend of Celtic, Norse, and Christian traditions that made Yule truly unique, with festivities centered around the winter solstice—the longest night of the year.
Explore the house and learn tales of ancient Scottish traditions, sample the flavors of 18th century-era food and drinks, and uncover the connection between this historic house and Charles Dickens, the author of A Christmas Carol.
This is a free-flow tour experience, so come anytime between 6:00pm and 8:00pm and let the festive spirit of Edinburgh's past sweep you away! Event concludes at 9pm.
