FinTech Masterclass Series: Staying on the right side of the law, navigating the challenging regulatory waters!
About this Event

Join us for a new FinTech masterclass series. Running monthly, it’s specifically designed for South Coast-based startup and scaleup teams who want to start and scale tech companies more effectively.

The goal of the series is to give the local tech community to opportunity to hear from, and directly engage with the people that have helped build globally successful tech companies.

This event is hosted by FinTech West: South Coast Hub. Whilst the focus is on FinTech, anyone associated with starting, scaling, and advising tech companies is welcome.

This months session: Staying on the right side of the law, navigating the challenging regulatory waters!

Oliver Woodhouse, a specialist financial regulatory lawyer from Ashfords LLP, will host June’s session. The masterclass will include a presentation with useful takeaways and plenty of opportunities to ask questions.

The world of financial services is a complicated one and navigating regulation can be a real head scratch, especially when your start-up or scaling business already has a hefty to do list!

It’s wise to get compliance right from the start, building good culture and processes along the way. Understanding what regulation means for your FinTech should put you in the regulator’s good books and keep your partners, investors and customers happy!

Getting it wrong, well, that can open a real can of worms, with risk of investigations, fines and – worst case – J*il time.

However, fear not, our next session will help you.

Our second masterclass will focus on key regulatory topics relevant to early stage and scaling FinTechs, sharing practical guidance and regulatory trends to be mindful of. Attendees will learn about:

• The FCA’s role and importance of getting to grips with regulation.

• Types of activities the FCA regulates.

• Navigating the regulatory gateway for new authorisation and changes at your firm.

• Hot topics and recent regulatory developments.
