Finding Your Inner Clown and Your Outer Stage Presence
(Clown Class)
Saturdays 3PM-6PM, April 27th-May 18th
Class Fee: $325 (Use code BONNIE at checkout for $50 off)
No refunds 72 hours prior to class

During this class, students will learn two things: how to be confidently silly and how to connect with the audience and be truly and authentically present.

Students will learn these lessons through a series of exercises designed to allow themselves to be the stupidest they can be while also heightening their awareness of how they are being received by spectators and how to maximize their positive reception.

During the clowning course, students have the opportunity to take risks in a safe environment. Failure is more than acceptable. No one will compare you to your successful cousin. Probably.

In all seriousness, this is an inclusive environment. No bigotry of any kind will be tolerated. Please adhere to The Lyric Hyperion Training Center’s code of conduct.

PRE-REQUISITES: Prior comedy training and/or stage performance experience is suggested, but not required. Anyone is welcome to be a clown!

REQUIREMENTS:

Please dress comfortably, ready to move. Please note there will be no makeup or wigs in this class, although no one will technically stop you.

Class Schedule:

April 27 - 3pm to 6pm - Session 1

May 4 - 3pm to 6pm - Session 2

May 11 - 3pm to 6pm - Session 3

May 18 - 3pm to 6pm - Session 4

Bio:

Bonnie He is an award-winning clown and physical comedian, sometimes actor, mediocre improviser and Hello Kitty super fan. She was in the short film The New Empress with Maggie Gyllenhaal, was on the Second City Hollywood (gone, but not forgotten) house improv team, Excelsior! and was a staple at the monthly Upright Citizens Brigade show, Send in the Clowns.

Bonnie’s award-winning live solo show A Terrible Show for Terrible People had its international debut in 2023 at the Edinburgh Fringe and was a critically acclaimed success, selling out all 23 of 23 shows at Underbelly Cowgate, and called “Benny Hill meets surprisingly friendly sex dungeon; delightful perverted nonsense” by Fest magazine. This summer, she’ll be going on a U.K. tour in London and Cardiff. And obviously visiting the Hello Kitty Cafe in Brighton.

“Bonnie He has the performing charisma to hold the room…” - The Scotsman

"Her stage presence is astounding, and it is not possible to tear your eyes away from her mad coquettish antics.” "Clearly an expert clown…" -EdFringe Review

"...this sexually charged force of nature holds her audience captive (willingly), and takes them on quite the adventure.” - The Quinntessential Review

“…she cavorts in and out (and indeed across) the audience with Puck-like enthusiasm.” - Fest

Previous awards for A Terrible Show include Fringiest Show at the 2023 Orlando Fringe Winter Mini-Fest, Best Comedy at the 2022 Hollywood Fringe Festival and the Craziest Solo Show award at the 2019 Crazy Woke Asians Solo Performance Festival. Additionally, she received the Scholarship Award, Best of Broadwater, and the Hollywood Producers’ Encore Award also at the Hollywood Fringe Festival. In 2023, Bonnie received the Maverick Award for her solo work from the Los Angeles Women’s Theatre Festival. The Maverick Award is “presented to an artist or individual whose work has set a high standard of individuality and self-styled creativity.” A Terrible Show has toured nationally from Second City Hollywood's Diversity in Comedy Festival to The Brick's NY Clown Theatre Festival.

When she’s not clowning, Bonnie is fervently growing her Hello Kitty collection.
