About the Programme

Movies inspired by true events, books based on real life—aren’t they just fictionalised recounts? Or even fake news?

In this hour-long talk, writer Felix Cheong guides you through one of the most misunderstood literary genres, creative non-fiction. Drawing from his own experience as an author and former journalist, he will introduce the various subgenres, from memoir to personal essay.

He will also touch on some of the controversies in creative non-fiction—from legal issues to creative licence—and unveil excerpts from his current project, a graphic novel inspired by Leslie Charteris, creator of The Saint series, Lim Boon Keng and the opium trade in Singapore.

This programme is part of the NAC-NLB Writer’s Lab.
