This training day will focus on ways of using positive reinforcement to improve ridden work. I won't be covering basic theory and practice, so the day is aimed at people who have introduced clicker training to their horse and who have been using it for a while.I will cover: What groundwork needs to be in place before you can use clicker training when mounted. What cues your horse needs to know - and how to tell that they really understand the cues. How to do "Cue Transfer", where you give an existing and well trained behaviour a new cue that your horse will understand when you're mounted. How to use positive reinforcement to change your horse's motivation to respond to ridden cues.
I'll also look at some aspects of "troubleshooting", looking at ways to resolve ridden issues that stem from previously trained cues, accidental desensitisation, and conflict behaviours.
If you're interested in learning about new ways of applying clicker training and positive reinforcement training more generally, this is the day for you! There will be lots of chat, discussion, practical demonstrations and examples. Karen's lovely Equine Unlimited venue has a variety of great training environments as well as a range of lovely horses with different experiences and personalities, so it will be possible to show how to tailor training to the horse and the situation. This training day will be demonstration only.
The price (£60) includes refreshments (drinks and snacks), but please bring along a packed lunch. Seating will be provided, including an indoor area for breaks, but please come dressed for being outside. There will be plenty of breaks for tea, coffee, cake and chat - these events are very sociable! https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfGh8MT6_aIzUEb44_oFQYDZRccTH0q8daK6CccqG69W2YjAA/viewform?usp=sf_link
