Enjoy a 3-week series of classes to help culivate the sublime state of equanimity. Thursday mornings, 11am - 12.15pm, starting on Apr 18.
About this Event

"When we gain the realization of equanimity our mind becomes peaceful and we do not feel disturbed whatever our circumstances. This balanced attitude is something that we need to cultivate because we do not have it naturally from the very beginning of our spiritual training. If everyone were to develop equanimity they would not be governed by attachment and hatred, and they would find freedom from suffering." – Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

Usually we find it difficult to control our mind. It seems as though our mind is like a balloon in the wind – blown here and there by various inner and outer circumstances. If things go well our mind is happy, but if they go badly it immediately becomes unhappy. Such fluctuations of mood arise simply because of the way our mind relates to these circumstances. By deepening our wisdom of the nature of things we are able to cultivate a state of mental equilibrium – a mind that remains balanced and peaceful at all times.

During this 3-class series, Robert will teach us various meditations and ways of thinking that draw upon Buddha's timeless wisdom of emptiness, impermanence and the nature of the mind. By deepening our own wisdom in this way we will gradually be able to cultivate the sublime state of equanimity – a balanced mind that is happy and peaceful all the time, rather than an unbalanced mind that oscillates between the extremes of excitement and despondency in dependence upon various conditions.

Week 1: Equanimity towards our own thoughts & feelings (pleasure & pain)

Week 2: Equanimity towards other living beings

Week 3: Equanimity towards reputation, wealth & resources, praise & respect

This class is suitable for everyone, regardless of experience, and you are welcome to join the series any week.
