Sunday, November 17th from 1:00-4:00 p.m.IN PERSON ONLY
Kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity—regarded as the Brahmaviharas or sublime abidings in the teachings of the Buddha—are practices that can lead to genuine ease, wellbeing, and freedom. When we make these our home, we find a way of living in the world with an awakened heart, cultivating safety and care toward ourselves while becoming a refuge for others. The meditative cultivation of these heart practices can help us to find stillness, peace, wellbeing, and can be a support for deepening our recovery, and a motivation for our work with others.
During this half-day workshop, Chris will share how these heart practices can be practiced in formal meditation as well as daily life. The workshop will consist of Dharma teachings, guided practices, and time for dialogue and conversation.
This offering is open to all who are interested. No meditation experience is needed, nor do you need to identify as a person in recovery to attend. All are welcome.
COST: The Dharma Center operates on the gift economy and the cost of the daylong is on a two-part sliding scale. The fee that you offer through the registration system ($36, $48, $60, or $72 or scholarship options of $18 or $0) supports our non-profit, which pays the costs of the website, administration, building, etc. In keeping with our 2,600-year-old tradition, the teacher of the retreat is not compensated but rather shares the teachings freely. In turn, you are invited into the practice of dana, or generosity, a gift economy system that has been alive since the time of the Buddha. At the end, you are invited to make a donation to support the teacher in continuing his valuable work. Donations in any amount whatsoever are gratefully received, and the practice of generosity is always elective.
