What is Financial Literacy and Why Does it Matter?Financial literacy is more than just knowing how to save! In today’s fast-changing world, it’s a skillset everyone needs, especially our young people.
What will be covered?
What financial literacy actually means and why it’s vital for life after school.What students are learning at school to prepare for their financial future. Why parents and caregivers need this knowledge to better support young people in making smart financial choices.
Event Details:
Join Cashmere High School’s acting Head of Commerce, Rasha Magdy, for an insightful panel talk. Students are warmly encouraged to attend. It’s a chance for them to gain first-hand tips and advice that will help them for years to come. We hosted a similar event in 2023, but this year’s talk brings fresh perspectives and up-to-date information, so even if you attended before, you’ll get something new from it.
The evening will consist of a panel of presenters from the following groups. They will share their knowledge and answer questions to help parents gain skills, tools and understand concepts not only for themselves but to support their whanau.
Rasha Magdy: Acting HOD of Commerce at Cashmere High school.
Matt Benassi: from our Commerce Department at Cashmere High school will talk about financial Literacy at Cashmere High School though the Banqer programme.
Steve Agnew: Senior Lecturer above bar at the University of Canterbury Department of Economics and Finance and the UC Business School.
Professor Tom Coupe: University of Canterbury Department of Economics and Finance and the UC Business School.
Oakley Inkersell: Cashmere Alumni student and business owner.

6pm to 6.30pm Nibbles and drinks in the foyer.
Talk starts at 6.30 pm in the PAC with a Kahoot game and prizes.
