About this Event

Film 1: The Day Israel Attacked America [2014, 49 mins]

Israel's air force and navy attempted to sink an American intelligence ship, the USS Liberty, off the coast of Sinai during the six-day war in 1967. To this day, Israel and the United States refuse to comment on the incident. At the time, they tried to 'brush it off' as an unfortunate accident and the US crew were forbidden to talk to anyone about it. President Johnson did everything to avoid losing votes at home, which he feared would result from criticising Israel. The cover-up has had profound political consequences. George Ball (former US Under-Secretary of State) wrote: "It seemed clear [to Israel's leaders] that their American friends would let them get away with almost anything."

Film 2: The Truth: Lost at Sea [2017, 57 mins]

The 2010 International Gaza Freedom Flotilla comprised six vessels, carrying 750 aid workers and supporters from 36 countries, together with 6,000 tons of humanitarian aid. It was attempting to break Israel's illegal blockade on Gaza. Israeli armed forces boarded the largest ship, the Mavi Marmara, and used lethal force to stop it. The other vessels were also boarded and the passengers assaulted. Every effort was made to prevent these brutal attacks from being recorded or broadcast to the outside world. Israeli spokesmen then used the media to spread a false narative that the peace activists were terrorists trying to smuggle arms to Gaza and intending to K*ll Jews.

Glyn Secker has kindly agreed to attend the documentary screenings for a Q&A, but may also give a talk about his own experiences. In September 2010, Glyn captained the Jewish Boat to Gaza, the catamaran MV "Irene", challenging the illegal blockade.
