About this Event
Syracuse University and Cornell University affiliates, in partnership with the Syracuse Tenants Union, present the third screening in a public housing film-and-discussion series. The series sheds light on displacement, gentrification, and systemic housing inequities.
Razing Liberty Square, directed by Academy® and Emmy® Award-nominated filmmaker Katja Esson, exposes climate gentrification. When rising seas threaten Miami’s luxurious beachfront, wealthy developers move inland to higher ground, targeting historically Black neighborhoods. Liberty City, located just 12 feet above sea level, becomes more “desirable” with each rising tide, forcing residents to fight for their homes and their community.
