Film Screening + Q&A: Don’t Buy a Bomb
The War in Yemen. British Arms Sales. A Groundbreaking Legal Challenge.
Join us at Community Base for a special screening of "Don’t Buy a Bomb" followed by a Q&A session with The Director (Eva McQuade), Brightons Stop L3 Harris Campaign (Anna Stavrianakis), Demilitarise Education (TBC) and Yemeni poet and activist, Amina Atiq.
This is the story of a Nobel-Peace Prize nominated campaign, challenging the UK Government under International Humanitarian Law. Meet those who demanded justice for untold war crimes and bloodshed in Yemen.
Will The Campaign Against Arms Trade (UK) and Mwatana (Yemen) win their case and render British arms sales to Saudi Arabia as illegal? (spoiler alert: they did!) Find out how and why they won, the governments reaction and the significance for ongoing legal struggles today - including those to stop British arms sales to Israel.
The Q&A will also feature Brightons local 'Stop L3 Harris' campaign, which has fought for decades to boot the arms trade out of Brighton. L3 Harris makes crucial components for the F35 Fighter Jets, which have been used extensively to bomb Gaza.
