About this Event
<h4>Join us for Rhode Island's only screening of Join or Die, a film about social capital: "social networks and the norms of reciprocity and trustworthiness that arise from them."</h4>
Follow the story of America's civic unraveling through the journey of Robert Putnam, whose legendary "Bowling Alone" research into American community decline may hold the answers to our democracy's present crisis. Join or Die marks 25 years since the publication of Bowling Alone, Robert Putnam's seminal work.
Following the film, we'll gather at CHOP, the Culinary Hub of Providence operated by the Genesis Center on the first floor of the Providence Public Library, for coffee and treats.
This screening is hosted by Local Return and the Rhode Island Center for the Book, who believe in the power of social capital to shape our future.
Local Return's mission is to build community wealth, particularly in historically disinvested Rhode Island communities, through community ownership and investment. Learn more at LocalReturn.org.
The Rhode Island Center for the Book's mission is to promote an equitable and just world through reading and education. Learn more at RIbook.org.
