About this Event

I Am More Dangerous Dead is the story of Ken Saro-Wiwa, a name largely unknown in contemporary households, but deserving of global recognition as the Twentieth century’s greatest climate action hero.

Ken Saro-Wiwa was a prolific writer and activist who led Nigeria’s Ogoni ethnic minority in protest against the devastating impact of oil exploitation on their land. He and eight other Ogoni men paid the ultimate price for their fight against pollution and marginalisation: their lives.

The short documentary film directed by Majiye Uchibeke, a son of the Niger Delta soil and MFA student at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Art re-energises the mission of Ken Saro-Wiwa and brings Nigerian climate justice into the contemporary climate change conversation.

I Am More Dangerous Dead challenges norms, ignites conversation and inspires change and is leaving an indelible mark on the global film landscape.

The film has been selected for a plethora of international film festivals. It was a highlight of Essence Festival 2023’s inaugural Nigeria Day, reached the International Nature and Environmental Protection Film Festival and Student BAFTA finals and has won multiple prestigious film awards including a Grand Prize at the March on Washington Film Festival, Best Student Documentary at the Bristol Independent Film Festival and Best Documentary at New York’s Offshore Film & Art Festival.

Majiye was awarded the Collegiate Filmmaker Spotlight Award at the Burbank International Film Festival and is hailed as “one to watch” within the international film industry.

There will be a short panel discussion after the film.
