Film Screening: "Voices: Chinese Women of the Delta"

Don't miss your chance to attend the premiere of award-winning filmmaker Min Zhou's documentary “Voices: Chinese Women of the Delta,” presented by the Locke Foundation - Oral History Project (LF-OHP) and Locke Prior Residents and Descendants Association (LockePRDA), and hosted by the California Museum as part of its Women's History Month programming.

“Voices: Chinese Women of the Delta” explores the sacrifices and contributions of women immigrants from China, as told by their descendants. The film examines how marginalized and discriminated against in the wider society, Chinese women suffered further repression within the male-dominated Chinese culture. Invisible and voiceless, their own community gave them little consolation or support in a country that viewed them as aliens and granted them few rights or standing.

Yet the women's previously untold stories reveal an indomitable resilience that shaped families, communities, and the course of California history. Click here to view a preview of the film.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmaker and documentary participants.

Light refreshments will be served to ticketed guests. No food or drink is allowed in the auditorium.
