A new PBS documentary called "Free for All: The Public Library" is premiering on Independent Lens in late April 2025... but we have it a month early just for you!The film explores how public libraries shaped this country and continue to be a sanctuary for Americans everywhere. "Free for All: The Public Library" tells the story of the quiet revolutionaries who made a simple idea happen. From the pioneering women behind the "Free Library Movement" to today's librarians who service the public despite working in a contentious age of closures and book bans, meet those who created a civic institution where everything is free and the doors are open to all.
Following the 1 hour film, there will be an up to 1 hour discussion and Q and A session based on the information in the film. We hope this film will inspire conversations about the importance of public libraries in your community.
