ABOUT THE FILM

Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, Rebecca stars Laurence Olivia and Joan Fontaine in a romantic psychological thriller focused on a woman adjusting to her new role as an aristocrat's wife and avoiding being intimidated by his first wife's supernatural presence. In his first American film project, Hitchcock worked with producer David O. Selznick, whose archive documenting his Hollywood studio operations is housed at the Center.

Rebecca received 11 Academy Award nominations in 1941 and won Best Picture and Best Cinematography awards. The film was selected in 2018 for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."
