Music takes center stage at this year’s SIMI Film Fest with the public debut of the Simi Valley Symphony Orchestra on Thursday, September 4. Conducted by World Soundtrack Award–winning film composer Joseph Metcalfe, the 90-minute concert will feature Hollywood classic movies like Forrest Gump, Gladiator, The Sound of Music, Schindler's List, and scores from selected festival films — giving independent composers a rare opportunity to have their work performed live by a symphony orchestra. These scores include this year’s Best Score nominees Forrest Gray (Stone Garden) and Greg Nicolett (Ripple).
It will also feature a performance from the hit video game Mario + Rabbids, with composer Grant Kirkhope appearing in person as a special guest. And a performance by singer/songwriter Katie Garibaldi, for an orchestral arrangement of an original song from her film This and That.
