Join us as we gather to relax and enjoy the 2019 comedy-drama “Our Friend”, starring Jason Segel, Dakota Johnson and Casey Affleck. “Our Friend” tells the inspiring and extraordinary TRUE story of the Teague family and their journey through a devastating cancer diagnosis with the help of a close friend named Dane.
“Our Friend” is based on Matthew Teague’s essay “Love is not a big enough Word “ published in Esquire 2015 after the death of his wife. In that article he wrote “ we don’t tell each other the truth about dying…. no one ever told me the truth about it , not once”.
Other reviewers have described the film as “insightful on a lot of things nobody wants to talk about, like caregiver fatigue” and the increasing isolation as Nicole gets sicker and sicker and the friends stop coming by. Only Dane remains. (AnnGrace Lee 2021) This is not however, a movie of negatives , rather a movie capturing the real life journey of this family and their friend which includes moments of beauty, love and laughter as well as heartache.
