Join Film at the Institute to experience the story of New York City’s beloved Veselka Restaurant, a symbol of community and resilience in the heart of Little Ukraine. Narrated by David Duchovny and featuring music by David Sanborn, the documentary captures the struggles and triumphs of the Birchard family as Jason Birchard navigates the challenges of stepping into his father’s role at the restaurant in the midst of the war in Ukraine. Following the screening, there will be an engaging talkback with Jason Birchard, Veselka’s third-generation owner and recipient of the 2024 UIA Friend of Ukraine Award, alongside writer and director Michael Fiore.
The film screening is free and open to the public with requested pre-registration. Reception tickets, including a tasting of Ukrainian borshch, pierogies, and cider, are available for purchase.
