Gesichtserkennungssoftware, die People of Color nicht erkennt; Bewerbungssysteme, die weibliche Bewerberinnen aussortieren – haben Algorithmen Vorurteile, aufgrund derer sie Menschen diskriminieren? Dieser Frage widmet sich die Filmemacherin und Aktivistin Shalini Kantayya in ihrem Film Coded Bias (Vorprogrammierte Diskriminierung). Der Film Kanatayyas zeigt Fälle vorprogrammierter Diskriminierung: Auf Algorithmen basierende Technologien reproduzieren die Vorurteile ihrer mehrheitlich weißen, männlichen Programmierer. Die bedrückende Erkenntnis des Films: Künstliche Intelligenz sind nur so intelligent, wie die menschlichen Naturen, die sie programmieren. Welche Folgen dies für Nutzer:innen im Alltag nach sich zieht, und wie es überhaupt soweit kommen kann, werden wir an diesem Abend erfahren.

Facial recognition software that does not recognize people of color; job application tools that screen out female applicants - do algorithms have biases on the basis of which they discriminate against people? Filmmaker and activist Shalini Kantayya addresses this question in her film "Coded Bias". Kanatayya's film shows cases of pre-programmed discrimination: technologies based on algorithms reproduce the prejudices of their mostly white, male programmers. The film's distressing insight: artificial intelligence is only as intelligent as the human natures that program it. This evening, we will find out how the consequences affect our everday lives, and how it could come to this in the first place.
