Join us for the first event of the 2025 - 2026 Film and Lecture Season: "America on Screen"!
We open the series with the iconic film Citizen Kane (1941), preceded with an introduction by Chris Case.
(Unless otherwise noted, Film and Lecture events are free and open to the public.)
From Criterion: "In the most dazzling debut feature in cinema history, twenty-five-year-old writer-producer-director-star Orson Welles synthesized the possibilities of sound-era filmmaking into what could be called the first truly modern movie. In telling the story of the meteoric rise and precipitous fall of a William Randolph Hearst–like newspaper magnate named Charles Foster Kane, Welles not only created the definitive portrait of American megalomania, he also unleashed a torrent of stylistic innovations—from the jigsaw-puzzle narrative structure to the stunning deep-focus camera work of Gregg Toland—that have ensured that Citizen Kane remains fresh and galvanizing for every new generation of moviegoers to encounter it."
Chris Case is an accomplished educator who teaches English, Film, Speech, and Drama at Cuba High School, where he has been a faculty member for the past five years. In addition to his teaching role, he serves as the English Department Head, coaches the school's competitive speech team, and directs the drama program.
Chris holds a diverse academic background, with undergraduate degrees in English Literature and Photography from Centenary College in Shreveport, Louisiana. He later pursued graduate studies in English Literature and Critical Theory at Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, and completed a master's in Secondary Education with an Emphasis in the Humanities from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix, Arizona.
His passion for cinema began at a young age, spending Friday nights in line for the latest Hollywood releases and Sunday evenings watching the Sunday Night Movie of the Week with his father. This early love for film evolved during his college years, where exposure to independent filmmaking and international cinema through a college film series expanded his understanding and appreciation of the medium. Today, Chris continues to share his love for film with his students, cultivating a deep engagement with the arts both inside and outside the classroom.
