COURSE DESCRIPTION
Come along for a creative evening of figurative sculpture. These classes run for 5 consecutive weeks, starting on 5th November and ending on 3rd December 2024 and take place in the Life Room at Bath Artists’ Studios.
You will create a sculpture in clay working directly from a life model. You will be given help with proportions and measurements to get you started and we will have a model holding the same pose for all five sessions. They will be on a revolving table in the middle of the class room so you can see the pose from every angle.
This will be a friendly class for all levels. At the end you will hollow out your piece in preparation for firing adn then it will be fired for you in our kiln.
Life sculpture offers a challenge but is also an immersive and therapeutic experience which people find richly rewarding. It is not as difficult as you might think and you will produce a sculpture unique to you and in your own style.
We are very fortunate to have a large and well equipped studio with sculpture stands for students and a turntable for the model and a space for you to store your sculpture in between classes. Armatures, clay and tools will all be available to you.
In the middle of the evening there will be a friendly tea break in the common room.
This class will carry on with two blocks of five classes each term and if you are enjoying the classes you will be welcome to carry on the following term. Models and poses will be organised to offer a range of sculpture projects over the year. Bath Sculpture School has a growing community of beginners and experienced figurative sculptors who attend classes, exchange ideas, organise trips, and put on exhibitions. The school also organises life sculpture on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and evenings and drop in untutored life drawing on Tuesday mornings and untutored portrait drop in on Friday mornings.

ABOUT THE TUTOR
Olga is a figurative sculptor living and working in Bath. From an artistic family, of Norwegian and English extraction, she grew up in Scotland and studied sculpture for five years at Edinburgh College of Art. She studied under figurative sculptor Vincent Butler, who had been taught in Italy by Marino Marini and Giacomo Manzu. She was fortunate to learn traditional techniques, working from the model, casting life-sized work in plaster and small pieces in bronze, then specialising in stone carving. Olga also paints, has a degree in Art History from Edinburgh University and has taught art workshops in schools. She teaches a Tuesday afternoon and evening class at Bath Artists Studios as well as some weekend workshops. She is keen to share her knowledge, encourage and inspire others to take up sculpture.
