About this Event
Join the Puerto Rico Lawyers Chapter of the Federalist Society and the Puerto Rico Institute for Economic Liberty for a breakfast discussion on how deregulation can help unleash Puerto Rico’s economic potential. As the Island continues to confront long-standing structural barriers to growth, a new wave of legislative reforms—particularly in the area of occupational licensing—is reshaping the policy landscape.
The program will feature remarks by the Hon. Thomas Rivera Schatz, President of the Puerto Rico Senate; a keynote address by Jonathan Wolfson, Chief Legal Officer and Policy Director at the Cicero Institute; and a panel discussion with Dr. Ángel Carrión-Tavárez, Director of Research & Policy at the Puerto Rico Institute for Economic Liberty. Wolfson will offer insights from regulatory reform efforts across the United States, exploring legal and policy tools that can help Puerto Rico modernize its framework for economic governance. Dr. Carrión-Tavárez will provide a local perspective, including an analysis of Puerto Rico’s recent performance in the Economic Freedom of North America 2024 index, findings from ILE’s new public policy study on occupational licensing, and a set of actionable recommendations to enhance economic freedom on the Island. Finally, the event will also include an in-depth examination of the four major Senate bills focused on streamlining or eliminating unnecessary licenses.
This program is eligible for one hour of general CLE credit. The Federalist Society’s Puerto Rico Lawyers Chapter is a preapproved CLE provider. The CLE ticket includes a full breakfast, all applicable Eventbrite service fees, gratuities, and taxes, as well as the $3 per-participant, per-credit fee required by the Puerto Rico Supreme Court’s Continuing Legal Education Program.
