"Sharing Stories: Empowering People" is the theme for The Fig Tree's 40th Anniversary Gala celebration from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, April 28, at the Cathedral of St. John, 127 E. 12th Ave. Karen Georgia Thompson, the first African American woman president and general minister of the national United Church of Christ and a member of the World Council of Churches Central and Executive Committees, is the featured speaker. She’s a Fig Tree reader.
There will be a buffet dinner prepared by Feast World Kitchen, recognitions of people in The Fig Tree history, a faith leaders panel to reflect on the impact of the publication and an interfaith celebration.
