FidPick Contra Dance with Open Band and Caller's Potpourri

Join us for an amazing new Contra Dance opportunity at the Carnegie Building in Lawrence, Kansas during the Kansas State Fiddling and PIcking Championship weekend. With sponsorship from the Doug Dubois Harmony Fund and presented by the FidPick organizers, we will dance to live Old Time music in an Open Band format with The Whiskey Consort, lead by Scott
McLewin. We will have a Caller's Potpourri, organized by Jill Allen, which will bring some of our best local talent to teach and lead us through an evening of fun and community movement.

Dance begins 7:30
Open to both beginners and newcomers without experience. Those new to contra should attend the free lesson at 7:00, but please be ready to line up at 6:45. All ages welcome!
To make it more social and fun, we ask that our dancers bring snacks to share and their own water bottle to keep hydrated.
Our dances are social, inclusive, fun, and beginner friendly. No experience? No partner? No problem!
You’ll hear our callers use gender free terms like Larks and Robins. Larks dance on the left side of a pair of dancers; Robins dance on the right side.
Contra dancing is fun and vigorous! Wear comfortable clothes and clean shoes. No black heels and no dance powder allowed on the floor.
THIS EVENT IS FREE OF CHARGE! There will be no ticket sales, as most of our expenses have been paid for by a grant from the Doug DuBois Harmony Fund.
