Fiber Arts/Sewing: Alterations and Mending
This is a series of four 2-hour classes.
Class meets on four Wednesdays 5:30pm - 7:30pm
- January series: 1/07/2026 - 1/28/2026
- February series: 2/04/2026 - 2/11/2026
During our Alterations and Mending Series you will have the opportunity to enhance your sewing skills under the guidance of our sewing instructor Shannon Marshall. We have materials, sewing machines, and tools here for you to use. You are encouraged to bring your own machine in good working condition, with the power cord, foot control, accessories and instruction manual, if available.
Various hand sewing and machine sewing techniques will be demonstrated. You can practice these techniques with sample fabrics and on your own clothing. Please bring your (clean!) clothing to work on during class with guidance and support from your instructor. Please DO NOT bring any towels or bedding, curtains or window treatments, cushions or pillows, outdoor gear, items for your pet, or dirty clothes.
We are working on different projects during each class meeting. It's a small group of 4 to 8 students and we're going to have a great time sewing together! The skills you are learning during this series will set you up for success with any kind of sewing projects you want to get into.
- Week 1: Mending and Embroidery
- Week 2: Hemming pants, skirts, shirts
- Week 3: Buttons, hooks, snaps, velcro, zippers
- Week 4: Waistbands, drawstrings, taking things in
Refund Policy: No refunds if you miss a class, arrive late, or have to leave early.
Class length: 4 class meetings, 2 hours each
Class size: 4 minimum, 8 maximum
Age range: All Ages
Instructor: Shannon Marshall, owner of Sonoma County Sewing Company.
Shannon has been a professional seamstress since 1998, a sewing teacher since 2005, and a local business owner since 2017.
Over the years she has worked with many local designers and small businesses, sewing their prototypes, samples, and custom orders
Cancellation Policy: Attendees must register for classes or request cancellations/refunds 7 days in advance. (Some classes may require more time.) Eventbrite fees will be charged to the attendee. No walk-ins.
