Learn to make the Bailey Backpack! Pick a size and select the front feature you want, then let's work from start to finish putting this cute backpack together!
What Does the Student Bring to Class?
Note that cork, vinyl, Harris Tweed, and faux leather are NOT recommended for class projects.
Supply List
Sewing Machine in working order, power cord, foot pedal, and manual
Presser feet for sewing machine: Standard foot; Zipper foot; Walking foot (Optional); Stitch in the ditch foot (Optional - will need the machine to accommodate a needle moving side to side to use this – so you may also need a different needle plate)
New Microtex or jean needles for your machine (90/14 or 100/16)
Thread to coordinate with your fabrics and a filled bobbin (polyester is recommended, although cotton is just fine – ensure it’s a thread your machine likes)
Pins
Wonderclips (or binder clips)
Chop stick, or tool for pushing out seams
Seam Ripper
Fabric Scissors
Temporary marking tool – frixion pen or chalk, etc. – ensure it works on your fabrics
Rulers (approximately 6” x 12” or larger is recommended)
Glue Stick (can be a standard school grade glue stick or a fabric glue stick)
Jean-a-ma-jig or hump jumper or seam compensation tool (Optional)
Flat head screwdriver (for installing label hardware with prongs)
Duct Tape (for installing label hardware with prongs)
Lighter (Optional)
Pinking Shears (Optional)
Seam roller (Optional)
1/8” wide Double-sided Tape or Wash-Away WonderTape (Optional)
1” wide Painter’s Tape or Masking Tape Optional)
Notebook (Optional – to mark down tips and tricks and resources)
There is no kit with this workshop
Students can pick up a .pdf version of the pattern from uhohcreations.com
or get a paper version from Emmaline Bags or Purple KATZ Quilting
No zoom for the Bailey - as we are doing this over two days, we have time to cut and interface in the first class as well as build a couple of components - especially with us having so many options and sizes available in this design. So no prep work other than gathering materials!
