About this Event
The first day of this course introduces hand papermaking and focuses on forming strong, decorative sheets in various sizes to take home and for use during the following days workshop. Participants will then explore craft applications suited to their paper, such as a simple Japanese 'four-hole' bound notebook and unique decorative lantern to take away.
After a brief introduction to the workshop, the first day is very much a hands-on experience trying out different fibres from across the world, such as Abaca, Mitsumata, Lokta, Cotton and colourful pulps, while using a variety of traditional mould sizes to make your paper. If you wish, this can be done with a more vibrant and festive approach suited to using for craft applications. On Sunday, you will make the notebook and create your unique lantern.
At the end of this course, you will have gained knowledge of the papermaking process, sheet forming experience, further creative possibilities with paper and have a selection of beautiful handmade papers as well as the unique items made on the second day. All materials and equipment will be provided, however, please bring some decorative items such as small leaves, decorative threads, small drawings / images or text to individualise your outcomes.
Essentially, please wear good, non-slip footwear throughout the day @ PULP.
The weekend is suitable for beginners and provides the materials, tuition and equipment to make quality handmade papers and craft items in a warm and friendly environment. Refreshments, tea / coffee and festive treats will also be provided through your weekend course to make the most of PULP's last workshop event of 2024 and begin celebrations.
PULP is a specialised workspace dedicated to paper art and books - it is easy to access and a comfortable space to work in. Tea and coffee will be provided but participants are asked to bring their own packed lunch or there are shops around 8mins walk from PULP. Local free parking is available and this space is suitable for wheelchair users. Beginners are very welcome and the course content suited to all levels.
