Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists and sends them on the road to tiny halls in communities all over Australia. It is produced by Woodfordia Inc in partnership with many other wonderful Australian festivals, regional partners and great lovers and supporters of folk and contemporary acoustic music. Surges Bay Community Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Melukerdee & Lyluequonny People.
The little team that could….. 2 years ago, the committee formed to see if they could inject a burst of life into the Surges Bay Community Hall and what a fun few years they have had! From markets to dances, playgroups to business meetings, food vans & special visitors, Santa & the Easter Bunny. Their most common feedback is how much wholesome fun people have had and what a great sense of community they have created.
The hall is situated between tourist towns, Geeveston & Dover only 10 minutes each way to both. The hall grounds have a BBQ area and sports oval utilised by runners, walkers, pet walkers, being a safe community space for everyone.
Festival of Small Halls rolls into Surges Bay on Friday, 17 January 2025 with Susan O’Neill and Monique Clare.
Opening the show will be local act Hot Chicken!
Grant Stevens and Nathan Bruton, performing as Hot Chicken, bring a fresh, dynamic sound.
Grant, a seasoned musician with decades of experience from Sydney to Europe, is known for his powerful and versatile vocals. Having fronted bands like The Soho Jets and Nervous Germans, he continues to captivate audiences with his engaging performances.
Nathan is a skilled blues guitarist, locally recognised for his work with Foggy Noggins. His precise playing and strong stage presence make him a perfect match for Grant’s energy.
Together, they deliver a fiery mix of sounds that leaves a lasting impression.
There will be coffee and cakes (gluten & dairy free) available from the Surges Bay Hall Canteen.
Surges Bay Hall Committee will be running a bar from 6pm – close offering beer, wine and spirits.

Full Admission – $35
Concession Admission (Pensioners) – $20
Youth Admission (Aged 3 – 12 Years, Must Be Accompanied By An Adult) – $15
Child Admission (Aged Under 3 Years, Must Be Accompanied By An Adult) – Free

Surges Bay Community Hall has accessible entry (level ground from car park) and has accessible bathrooms.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through Creative Australia, its principal arts investment and advisory body.
Festival of Small Halls events take place in venues operating under an approved Tasmanian Health Covid Safe Event Checklist, and has stringent Workplace Health and Safety requirements for all travelling artists and crew. Under the terms and conditions of all events, you must not attend if you have any symptoms of Covid-19.
