Festival of Small Halls is a series of tours that takes the best folk and contemporary acoustic artists and sends them on the road to tiny halls in communities all over Australia. It is produced by Woodfordia Inc in partnership with many other wonderful Australian festivals, regional partners and great lovers and supporters of folk and contemporary acoustic music. Carrick Public Hall stands on the traditional lands of the Panninher & Pallitore People.
Carrick Hall dates back to the 1900s. It is believed the original hall was destroyed by fire around 1898, and replaced by the current hall with a donation of land and financial support from Mr. Thomas Reiby of Entally – grandson of the lady whose portrait appears on the $20 note.
The hall has been witness to over 120 years of Carrick district and community activity. The first of many “Carrick Fair, Horticultural and Produce Shows” was held at the hall in 1905. The hall has also been used for concerts, dances, Scouts, Guides, bingo, indoor sports, cooking classes for young homemakers of the future, voting on election days and working bees (knitting and sewing) during two World Wars. The anteroom at the rear of the hall, complete with fire place, was used for many years as a reading and meeting room, and is still used today as the committee meeting room. The spacious hall, with a seating capacity in excess of 200, its rich history which can be felt as you step inside and its elevated stage, is an ideal venue for this festival.
Festival of Small Halls rolls into Carrick on Friday, 3 January 2025 with Susan O’Neill and Monique Clare.
