Curated by the Festival Director Opus. Her is a tribute to women composers, singers and leaders from a diverse range of eras and backgrounds. A showcase of women creatives, represented by a fine selection of Australian solo and orchestral artists, joining to celebrate International Women's Day.Weaving together archival footage, narrative and melody, virtuoso pianist Sonya Lifschitz and composer Robert Davidson create a series of musical portraits spanning centuries of female leaders, scientists and artists. The work titled So Much Myself: Piano Portraits will feature Ukrainian-Australian artist Sonya Lifschitz as an opening to Opus.her.
Throughout, Lifschitz’s piano anchors the stories and transforms them into songs, with the melodies derived from each person’s spoken intonation. This stunningly original collection probes the big questions of our time and is a powerful ode to creators who have shaped our world.
Embedded within are highlights from female composers by the featured artists, violinist Alexandra Osborne, cellist Elina Faskhi and pianist Andrea Lam, each performing an intriguing selection of solo and trio works by Clara Schumann, Ethel Smyth, Florence Price and Nadia Boulanger.
