About this Event
Join Meryem Mammedova of Prescription Foods to learn all about fermented foods and their benefits!
Fermented foods are full of flavor and health benefits; however, for some people it takes time to develop a taste for them. They are made by converting sugars and starches that are present in vegetables, fruits, milk, and other foods into organic acids by bacteria and yeast. Some examples of fermented foods include raw sauerkraut, kimchi, lacto-fermented pickles, miso, yogurt, and kefir. These foods are alive and teeming with beneficial bacteria that keep our digestive system healthy. 80% of our immunity resides in our gut, thus eating probiotic foods strengthens our immune system and ensures protection from outside invaders. There are plenty of benefits you can gain from eating fermented foods on a regular basis. Come and learn what they are along with some sample tasting!
Meryem is an owner of Prescription Foods, LLC., a Pittsburgh-based, social-purpose fermented foods company and a creator of gut health coaching programs. With over 10 years of experience studying, creating and experimenting with healing foods, her knowledge base is broad, however she specializes in examining gut health and helping women with gut imbalance.
Meryem lives in Pittsburgh with her husband, son and daughter - 3 very patient guinea pigs for her culinary experiments.
