Ottawa’s FemmeVox music series celebrates its 10th show at GCTC
Great Canadian Theatre Company and CKCU-FM are excited to present the 10th installment of the FemmeVox music series, onstage at GCTC on Sunday, January 18th at 7:30 PM. FemmeVox is a series of concerts celebrating established and emerging talent, and promoting mentorship among its artists which has been running at GCTC for more than five years.
This edition of FemmeVox features four artists: Amanda Rheaume, Kellylee Evans, Malia Rogers, and Tara Holloway. As with past FemmeVox concerts, the artists will be working together in pairs to write two brand new compositions, which they will be debuting in front of the live audience. The show starts at 7:30 pm and takes place on the GCTC mainstage. Tickets are on a pay what you choose sliding scale of $25, $35 and $45.
“We are thrilled to present the 10th edition of FemmeVox! What began in 2019 as an idea to spotlight the talents of local female-identifying artists has grown into a dynamic series of electrifying performances,” says Co-curator, Anne Marie Brugger. “This milestone edition brings together four award-winning, top-tier songstresses for a truly unique experience. With the artists collaborating on two brand-new co-written songs, FemmeVox10 promises a one-of-a-kind performance that audiences won’t want to miss."
FemmeVox launched in February 2019, and quickly garnered critical acclaim. The series has featured such artists as Mia Kelly, Jessica Pearson, Chelsey June, Mischa, Angelique and Kharincia Francis, Miss McLeod, NAMBI, OK Naledi, Ambre McLean, Amanda Lowe, Larissa Desrosiers, Yolande LaRoche, Kelly Prescott, Malayka (formerly known as Malak Sound), and Vicki Brittle to name a few.
PERFORMERS
Amanda Rheaume
At the start of every show, Rheaume introduces herself as a Citizen of the Métis Nation of Ontario whose Red River roots run deep, interwoven with Anishinaabe relatives from Lac Seul and mixed settler relations. In Rheaume’s music, songs of resistance and resilience travel centuries. With a gentle yet unflinching touch, Rheaume has grown to be a chronicler of stories and people whose acts - out of necessity and opportunity alike - cascade through time and space, from the 18th century Red River Settlement to her own doorstep. With curiosity and empathy, Rheaume has become a bearer of history, unearthing and preserving Métis stories in song. In her gutsy guitar-driven style, punctuated with lively Métis fiddle, Rheaume’s heartland rock is built to last, resolute in rhythm and unswerving in purpose.
Kellylee Evans
Juno Award-winning singer-songwriter Kellylee Evans is a high-octane, chameleon-like performer whose natural charm and improvisational vocal style embody jazz, soul and pop. She has toured throughout the world, opening up for artists as varied as John Legend, Tony Bennett and Willie Nelson. Backed by stellar musicians, her performance takes listeners on a journey while sharing her compelling story through her original songs. Listeners will be captivated by her ability to touch their hearts with her message which is universal while still being very personal.
Malia Rogers
Nova Scotian raised, Ottawa-based singer-songwriter Malia Rogers has a clear musical mission: be the first person in the room to drop her shield, and in doing so, move others to lower their own. Malia’s debut EP Chameleon explores themes of identity, relationships, loss, growth, and the stories we tell ourselves, all the while imploring listeners toward kindness, forgiveness, and self-compassion. Audiences at her live show will enjoy stirring celtic and bluegrass-inspired melodies balancing melancholy & hope, relatable stories about love, grief, and self-discovery, and the lingering feeling of having been recognized -- like a buoy on the waves.
Tara Holloway
Tara Holloway’s voice can stop you dead in your tracks. It’s a towering instrument: raw and soulfully weathered, yet capable of precise runs and pitch-perfect delicacy. Her debut album, Sins to Confess, was released in 2012 and was followed up by Little Ghosts in 2015. After touring extensively across the country and to Nashville, she has returned to Ottawa and settled comfortably as an in-demand vocalist. Having worked with local elite producers and engineers, she has co-written with Lynne Hanson and appeared on recordings of Jeff Maleras, Sills and Smith and many more. More recently she co-wrote with Naviger at FemmeVox 8. The song, Someone’s Somebody, was selected for the 2025 CKCU compilation The Still Mighty - Celebrating 50 Years of CKCU 93.1 FM. Her songs have also appeared in shows like Sons of Anarchy and Dallas.
