About this Event

Join the LA chapter of the Feminist Bird Club for a special bird walk and private tour in collaboration with the Moore Lab of Zoology (@mlzbirds).

Housed at Occidental College, the Moore Lab holds a collection of over 65,000 specimens, the majority which are whole bird study skins. They hold the largest Mexican bird collection in the world and nearly 7,000 hummingbird specimens.

The schedule for our visit is roughly:

8:00 - 9:00 am Campus Bird Walk

9:00 - 10:30 am Moore Lab Collection Tour

Moore Lab tours are completely free, but attendees are welcome to make donations to the lab through their website and/or to tour guides via cash or Venmo QR codes on the day of the tour.

This is a beginner-friendly event and all are welcome, especially LGBTQ and BIPOC-identifying folks, people with disabilities, and women. Space is limited due to the size of the lab, so please be sure to RSVP.

WHERE TO MEET: We will meet at the main entrance of Occidental College at 1600 Campus Road. For parking, you will enter the campus via Alumni Avenue and turn right into the first parking lot. A Google Maps link can be found here. There is also ample street parking available on Campus Road.

We will meet at the entrance at 8 am to begin our bird walk. You'll see us! If you are having any trouble finding us, text Jess at 323-627-2865 or Taylor at 626-513-5230.

ACCESSIBILITY: We will be walking around a college campus, so we will be navigating a mix of pavement and grass. When we are in the Moore Lab itself, we will be standing, but we are able to coordinate seating for anyone who needs it - please let us know if you would like to request a chair. If you have any questions about accessibility, please reach out.

WHAT TO BRING: Bring binoculars if you have them; we will also have some on hand to lend.

Please read and review Feminist Bird Club's Birding Code of Conduct prior to attending this event.

DM us on Instagram if you have any questions ahead of time!
