Class description: In this class, you will learn the ancient art of wet felting. Artist Kati will first go over a brief history of the art. You will be making a piece of felted art to be part of an art installation at the Mead Public Library in Sheboygan, WI. The installation highlights the freshwater creatures and beauty of Lake Michigan and is intended to be created by individuals who live in the community. We want you, as an individual in the community, to come through in your art. You will learn to take tufts of wool and magically create a 3-D solid form. Be prepared to get wet and wear comfy shoes!
This is a TWO-DAY class. The first part will occur on Saturday, July 20th from 10:30-2:30 and the second part will occur the following weekend, on Saturday, July 27th, 10:30-2:30. Finished pieces will be on display at the Mead Public Library as part of an art installation in Fall 2024.
Artist Bio: Kati Fritz-Jung has been a maker of many things throughout her life. Once she discovered the art of wet felting, everything else fell by the wayside. She is working on a community installation art project featuring the beautiful Lake Michigan. Kati’s goal for this project is twofold. She would like to bring awareness to the most ancient fiber art, felting, and additionally would like to engage those who may feel unrepresented or “invisible” in our community in the creation of this project. This is the opportunity to be seen, by representing you in your work. Each piece will be assembled with others’ to create the final installation. All materials and instruction will be provided. The Mead Public Library has graciously provided the space for the installation.
Cancellation Policy: If you must cancel, please do so at least 72 hours before the class for a full refund. Last-minute cancellations will be handled on a case-by-case basis. If we have to cancel the class, you will receive a full refund!
This class is brought to you by 'Share Your Joy!', a program created by Hello Happiness Creativity Center intended for people to share their artistic passions with the community in a welcoming and open environment.
