About this Event

Fell and Folk is a relaxed, intimate evening of folk / acoustic / alternative music.

All musicians wil be playing a 30-minute set, with a 15 minute interval in between. The music will finish at 9.45/10pm and the bar will be open until 11pm.

Host LAURA FELL will kick off the evening with a 30-minute set. Fell's debut 2020 album, 'Safe From Me', was released to wide critical acclaim - it was given 8/10 in it's ablum review by Uncut Magazine, and RecordStore.co.uk made it one of their Top 50 Albums of 2020. After a brief break from music, Fell has returned this year with a trio of introspective singles, embariking on an evocative journey through the theme of loss. Fell’s talent for lyrical craftsmanship permeates every song, inviting listeners to delve beneath the surface to unearth the profound meanings within. With her return, she offers a forceful yet fragile exploration of the human experience.

"Fell's rich alto is pure poetry" - Uncut Magazine

"Initmate and immersive ... packed with personal emotion but edged withmystery" - Various Small Flames

" 'Safe From Me' is a truly excellent album, a decptively mature debut from a highly talented artist" - At The Barrier

"Laura Fell is a force to be reckoned with..." - Line of Best Fit

We'll then have Samantha Whates (UK / Rough Trade Records & Wonderfulsound) and Ida Wenøe (Denmark / Songcrafter Music (DK) & Integrity Records (UK)) asco-headliners, playing a blended set of their own songs, accompanying one another, as part of their Headline UK 2024 Tour.

Scottish singer-songwriter Samantha Whates is a hugely respected figure on the folk & roots scene and has enjoyed both critical acclaim and extensive radio play for her solo releases and as part of PicaPica (Rough Trade Records). Her beautifully crafted, heartfelt songs retain a strong affinity with her Scottish roots, cultivating a sound that is thoroughly contemporary, rooted in tradition, yet uniquely her own.

Danish Music Award winning folk artist Ida Wenøe is known for her introspective storytelling, often using nature as her tapestry. With a voice that's both ethereal and earthy, the Copenhagen-based singer-songwriter draws inspiration from the folk traditions of the 1960s and ‘70s, with her own contemporary take. Her music is characterised by subtle yet intricate guitar work, soaring vocal harmonies, and a lyrical depth that's both personal and universal.

After three critically acclaimed albums with respected indie labels Songcrafter Music (DK) and Integrity Records (UK), Ida has enjoyed support on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio 4, Amazing Radio, BBC Wales, BBC Cambridge, BBC Suffolk, BBC Shropshire, BBC Radio Ulster & KEXP.

Wenøe & Whates forged a musical bond some years ago whilst attending a Chris Difford songwriting retreat and were reunited 2 years later whilst attending the Folk Alliance in Kansas City where they had both been selected as official showcasing artists.

Though touring as separate co-headliners, the pair regularly collaborate and join each other on stage to perform new arrangements for each other's favourite songs. This joy of collaboration developed into Whates becoming a full member of Ida’s band ‘The Wondrous Sea’ and have been enjoying touring scandinavia. They plan even more interplay in each other's sets for 2024. They will be playing songs from their 2022 collaborative EP ‘Turn’ and have a second EP on the way which will be available to buy at the shows!

Capacity is limited, as is seating, so best to book in advance and to arrive for the start of the event to nab your table of choice, and to give all three acts a lovely audience to play to!

Our venue, The Hair and Hound, is perfect for this cozy, intimate setting, and their wonderful bar staff will be serving up standard alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks as well as cocktails.

Doors open at 6.30pm, music starts at 7pm. Music ends at 9.45pm but the bar will be open until 11pm.
